Introduction
We prevented back surgery (costing $15,000) in a woman whose chronic constipation was causing debilitating low back pain. When we examined her, the abdominal mass was terrible, and she had been too shy to tell her doctor, who had not examined her and gave her more medication. The analgesics were actually exacerbating the constipation!
We have found that the organs and the body affect each other in so many ways, which is one of the principles of osteopathy. Structure and function are integrated, which means that the way it moves affects the way it works. “If it lives, it moves.” This is one of the laws of Nature, Life and Motion, and it is our guiding principle in diagnosing, treating and managing our patients. It makes a person’s circulation crucial to their health and well being, which is crucial to recovering from illness and injury.
